Yes. You can never have too many 808s

LET EM KNOW‼️

yeah kinda

not kinda just yeah?️

@KayYht What's your favorite 808? Mine is the Spinz

probably spinz too. mad iconic and versatile!

@KayYht Do you prefer vsts, or chopping right in the sampler?

depends on the vibe i'm going for, on my main i do both modern trap with vsts for a more synthetic sound while layering samples on top of those, as well as a modern/90s boombap style, usually only using layered samples and drums! I take lots of inspiration from rappers like Westside Gunn and Travis Scott as well as producers like The Alchemist and Conductor Williams! On this account i use VST only to comply with newgrounds guidelines, as well as I think it is better for the more experimental stuff i'm making. While i usually use presets and stuff, on this account i decided to do my own synth design using serum. What about u tho? vst or sampler

@KayYht I use both but I definitely prefer sampling. There are enough free sample packs on the internet and boombap packs to chop samples out of those and be legal -- mainstream hop has been yanking drums for so long that people don't come after you generally for a oneshot, like the crowd chant and so on.

I actually really like the trashy 2006 sound, 808s and 909 drums, but the punch of modern production is where it's at.

The most fun I have is probably taking samples out of other genres and making them hip-hop, or vice versa, taking hip-hop samples and making them dnb or whatever xD

If you ever have a question about sampling, licensing, what is and isn't ok, feel free to ask. That's what I'm here for.

Do you have a favorite song you've made so far, or a surprising fan favorite?

Ur probably smart for using packs and non copyrighted samples, i've used 100s of samples i don't own for about 4 years now and luckily nothing has happened. Its kinda more of the artists/ labels job to clear those though so i'm probably safe. In terms of drums i use all of TheLunch77 ShowTheScreen packs if you know about those. When it comes to sample types 70s-90s jazz has almost always been my go-to but as you said, almost any other genre can be sampled just got to be creative enough! On here my best is probably ENTRY NOTICE cuz of the drums being more complex than most of the others but 02 and 04 off of this project https://youtu.be/nguIt_v-2XY?si=3lMqrGaJmIs21-Ye are probably the two best sample flips i've ever done. Send over ur coolest sample chops and i'll check em out fr!
